Raise a Calf for Hospice Programme
How does it work?
1. Donate a Calf
Donate a 4 day old beef cross calf or calves from your herd. Hospice volunteers will collect the calves from your farm and place them with calf rearers.
2. Rear a Calf to Weaning
Hospice volunteers will deliver a 4 day old beef cross calf or calves to you for rearing through to weaning at approx. 100kgs liveweight. The calves will then be collected and placed on grazing/finishing farms.
3. Graze and Finish a Calf
Hospice volunteers will deliver a weaned 100kg calf or calves to you for grazing and finishing on your farm. At approx. 2 1/2 years old, around 550kgs liveweight, the animals will be ready for sale, which will be arranged by Hospice volunteers.
4. Donate the proceeds from one of your own calves to Hospice
Rear and graze a calf from your own herd and donate the proceeds to Hospice South Canterbury.
